Reflections on China, the Steam Engine and the Industrial Revolution

Talking about why I have choose to write a lot about what didn't happen in China in terms of development of a steam engine and an industrial revolution.

Som of the topics I cover in the podcast are:

  • Why compare China to the West at all? Why not say the various middle eastern civilizations instead?

  • What makes China interesting and different

  • The role of geography, climate and material conditions in development

  • Could China have done anything different historically and if so what?

  • What lessons can we learn today about the divergence that happened between the West and China historically?

At the moment these podcasts will be in more or less raw form as I am testing out this format to see what response and interest there is.
